I'm LJ

I'm inspired by others who drive my insatiable desire to help people. As a Black woman, millennial, local small business owner and activist, I believe I have what it takes to bring a strong and inclusive voice to Calgary.

Being passionate about bringing about change runs in my blood. My grandfather held public office in the Caribbean island of Nevis in the 1930s.

Calgary needs an overhaul and that the people representing their constituents should be present and reflect the community needs. As Vice President and co-founder of BLM and Defund2Fund, I got involved in activism because I understand we live in a world that is actively anti-black and was sick of looking at it from an academic lens and felt as though I needed to do something.

My hope is that 2021 is the first year on the path to a more progressive and inclusive future.
